Homemade bug repellent

Summer isn’t over and the bugs are here to let us know! Earlier in the summer I mixed up some homemade bug repellent and it worked like a charm the whole season. I hope that you are able to try this out and see how well it works for you. Plus—it is all natural ingredients!

I am hosting a party to celebrate 4 years of FiA South Coast. Some of the ladies from our workout group are coming over my house to enjoy some food, fun, but definitely not fitness! There will be several of us so it is going to be a very chill get-together.

Nevertheless, I got all things teal to adorn my outdoor area in honor of the FiA Nation’s logo color. I was thinking of what I could put in my guest’s (teal) favor bags, and I came up with some teal bead and gemstone keychains and homemade bug repellent.

How to Make Homemade Bug Repellent and What You’ll Need:

    • Plastic mini spray bottle (I got them from Five Below but any store will carry travel-sized bottles)

    • Witch Hazel

    • Water

    • Clove oil

    • Vanilla oil

    • Citronella oil

    • Lemongrass oil

Once you have all your items, you can start bottling your new and much healthier bug repellent.

Take your spray bottle and put 15 drops of each oil into the bottle. Once finished, fill the rest of the bottle up with equal parts of witch hazel and water.

This is a very simple recipe and will yield many bottles of bug spray—perfect to make and give away as gifts! Each bottle of oil is a little investment, but you can keep it for seasons to come, or like I just mentioned, make some to gift others.

Since FiA gathers outdoors for each and every workout, I figured giving bug spray would be a practical party favor! there have been many workouts where we all got bit up from those annoying mosquitoes and having bug repellent at our dispose would have been appreciated during those times!
